Tokyo vs. Stockholm

Schon nach dem sechsten Tag kann ich sagen: Tokio und Stockholm - zwei krasse Gegensaetze. In Tokio ist die U-Bahn sehr gepflegt. Egal wohin man geht oder womit man fahert, man muss sich seltenst ekeln. Das einzige Problem ist die Orientierung da das Netz einen ziemlich Radius hat. ---- In Stockholm geht einem der Uringeruch schier nicht mehr aus der Nasenschleimhaut, die meisten Waggons sind mittlerweile total heruntergekommen und schmutzig. Ein grosses Plus ist die uebertragbare Monatskarte fuer verhaeltnismaessig wenige SEK (man kann damit U-Bahn, innerstaedtische Zuege, Busse und sogar eine der Faehren benutzen). Ein grosses Minus ist der Zustand - insbesondere deshalb, weil die U-Bahn (Tunnelbana) eigentlich eine riesige unterirdische Galerie ist.
Am Rande sei noch erwaehnt, dass ich total auf die geheizten Steinbaenke im Wartebereich der U-Bahn stehe (lieber Haemmoriden als ne Blasenentzuendung, wa?!)


In Tokio trifft man auf - fuer eine Grossstadt - verhaeltnismaessig wenige Auslaender.

In Stockholm trifft man hingegen auf so gut wie keine Schweden.
(Habe ein Foto des Nirvana-Konzerts von 1992 in meiner Sammlung - eine hellblonde Menge groelte Kurt Cobain da entgegen... Samstag war ich auf einem Open-Air auf dem "Kulturfestivalen" - das haette gemessen an der Haarfarbe des Publikums auch in Suedeuropa sein koennen...)


In Tokio meiden die meisten Japaner den Augenkontakt wie der Daibl das Weihwasser. Mal ganz zu schweigen davon, dass unter Frauen das normale Laufen ohne gekuensteltes X-Bein-Schlurfen nicht moeglich ist.

In Stockholm - sehr angenehm - sind die schwedischen Frauen auffallend stolze, selbstbewusste, aufrecht gehende Individuen (wenn man dann mal eine sieht ;)


Tokios Restaurants - ob gross oder winzig - sind zu 95% immer ein Treffer. Man schafft es fast nicht, wirklich schlecht essen zu gehen.

Stockholms Durchschnitts-Gastronomen sollten alle hinter Gitter. Damit sie auch ja nie mehr kochen koennen... Es gibt natuerlich auch hervorragende Restaurants, aber die kosten. Wie in Japan fuer kleine Betraege qualitativ hochwertiges Essen kaufen - das ist eine echte Kunst. Und jammre nochmal einer, Tokio sei so teuer... von wegen... geht mal hier einkaufen!


In Tokio kann ich keine Zeitung lesen, weil ich sebst nach einem Jahr intensivem Sprachtrainig ein linguistischer Volltrottel bin.

In Stockholm - selbst nach jahrelanger Pause - vertilge ich in der U-Bahn die morgentliche Zeitung und verstehe auf Anhieb ca. 70% :) Oh, das tut so gut.

I took me just six days to realize that Tokyo and Stockholm don't have much in common. (How come...? :) In Tokyo the subway is very well kept. No matter where you go or what you go with - only once in a blue moon it may happen that you see or smell something that's disgusting. The only problem is the orientation as the network of trains and subways is HUGE.

In Stockholm it is hard to ignore the smell of urine, in the meantime most of the wagons are completely fucked up and dirty. Very positive is the - compared to other countries - the quite cheap tranferable monthly ticket (unlimited use of all buses, trains, subway + one ferry within greater Stockholm). Very negative is the condition of the public transport system - which is particularly sad because the subway (tunnelbana) is one of the world's biggest (underground) gallerys.
And by the way... I totally go for the heated stone benches in the subway's waiting area (I prefer hemmorrides against bladder infection)



In Tokyo you seldomly meet foreigners (compared to other big cities).

However, in Stockholm it seems hard to meet original Swedes.
I still have a photo of 1992's Nirvana concert in Stockholm - then a light blonde crowd was hailing Kurt Cobain. Last Saturday I visited an open-air at the "kulturfestivalen" - measured by the hail colour of the audience it could have been in Southern Europe...


In Tokyo most of the Japanese (women) avoid looking you directly in the eyes in public. Let alone the fact that walking without SWEET knock-knees seems to be impossible.

In Stockholm - I like that a lot - the Swedish women are stikingly self-confident , and walk upright through their lifes (as already mentioned... you don't see them often ;)


Tokyo's restaurants - no matter what size they are - are 95% a full success. It is almost impossible to eat out at low quality.

Stockholm's average gastronomes should go to jail and never leave it again to be prevented from cooking. Sure, there are very fine restaurants - but they are expensive. Really good food for a small budget like in Japan is almost impossible.
And please, stop moaning over the prices in Tokyo - Stockholm can be even worse!

As soon as the first sunrays show up in Japan the ladies start to veil themselves in order to preserve their aristocratic white skin colour.

In Tokyo it is impossible for me to read the newspapers as even after one year I am a linguistically speaking a stupid bloody idot.

In Stockholm - even after years of no Swedish at all - I inhale the newspaper every morning and understand almost 70%. And hey, that feels great :)
